Hiking Difficulty Ratings

Hikes are rated according to the amount of distance travelled, the amount of elevation gained, seasonal conditions, and if applicable, special considerations for the route, pace, etc.
Difficulty (D) # Rating Specs
1 City (C) Approx 3-12km with little elevation gain of city streets or paths
2 Easy (E) Less than 6km distance and negligible elevation gain.
3 Easy/Moderate (E/M) Approx 6-12km and negligible elevation gain.
4 Moderate (M) Approx 6-12km with gentle elevation gain.
5 Moderate/Difficult (M/D) Greater distance (over 15km) and more challenging elevation gain.
6 Difficult (D) Greater distance (over 20km), challenging elevation gain, and/or seasonal conditions or special considerations.
7 Very Difficult (VD) Greater distance (over 25km), challenging elevation gain, and/or seasonal conditions or special considerations.
